I start my chevy truck and the red shifter indicator does not light up. When this happens I loose my tack and speedometer. The trans will not shift and starts out in drive. I am able to manually shift starting in low. It started out about a year ago but seemed to correct its self. Now it occures about every other time I start the truck. If I continue to turn the key on and off with out engaging the starter some times the shifter light comes on. The key here is if the shifter indicator is lite everything works fine.
Can you tell me where to start looking?

Optional Information:
1997 Chevrolet suburban 350

Already Tried:
Checked electical connections at trans.

Relist: I want a different opinion.
I was hopeing for a more definate response from someone who has had the same or simular problem. This response would be more on the line of process elimination and costly.
