I have a 79 ford f150 with a charging problem. it has a new battery and alternator but still isnt charging, all connections are good, what should i start looking at?

Optional Information:
Pre-1981 Ford f150 400

Already Tried:
new alternator and battery

that truck has a external regulator mounted on the pass side fender. it could be bad or the poor connection or bad ground between regulator and fender
the alternator can be tested by jumping the a term to the f term on the alternator momentarily to see if voltage increases if it does check all connections and if all are ok then replace regulator
