Sent to Car Experts August 06 06:12 PM

2003 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 knocking When Cold. I just bought the truck used, so I do no how well it was maintained mechanically. It has 87,000 miles and it has a loud knock when I start it wben cold. After it warms up I can shut it down and restart 20-30 minutes later with no problem. Also, I live in Texas, so the air temp right now is 80-100 degrees. I am running mobil 1 with fram toughguard filter.

If the knock has a high pitch it is probably a hydraulic lifter or wrist pin. If it has a base tone it is a crank bearing or rod bearing. If it goes away after a minute or so I would not worry too much. You can get a quart of Gunk or equivalent engine flush and new oil and filter and try that. If it is a lifter it might correct it.

Hope this helped, if so please accept.
Thank you,
